Tan Care
Tan Tips
What to do in preparation of your spray tan visit.
Pre-Tan Tips
- Exfoliate and moisturize well in the days leading up to your appointment. Stop exfoliating 48 hours beforehand, but continue moisturizing to keep your skin hydrated and ready for an even result.
- Avoid any lotions, deodorant, skincare products, perfume, or jewellery on the day of your tan.
- Wax at least 72 hours before your appointment and shave 24 hours beforehand. This helps your tan develop more evenly and reduces the risk of irritation or sensitivity.
- Avoid razors with heavy moisturizing strips for 4–5 days before your appointment, especially on the lower legs, as they can affect how evenly the tan develops. A simple razor without a thick moisturizing strip is often the safer choice.
- You're welcome to wash your hair before your appointment, otherwise it's best to wait 24 hours after your tan, especially to protect the tan on your face. The same to your nails.
- Remember to wear loose, dark clothing and sandals/flip flops to your appointment.
Post-Tan Tips
- Avoid water, sweat, and friction for 12 hours.
- Take a quick 1-minute lukewarm shower after the first 12 hours. After 24 hours, you can shower normally. The less your tan is exposed to water, sweat and friction, the longer it will last. Avoid bubble baths, long soaks, washcloths, scrubbing and exfoliation for the duration of your tan
- Pat dry with a dark towel – no scrubbing.
- Moisturize preferably twice daily with a fragrance-free lotion such as Epimax Original to help maintain your glow and ensure a smooth, even fade.
- Sleep in light, long pajama pants the first night to help protect your developing tan.
- Sunbathing: Limit direct sunlight and always use a water-resistant SPF sunblock to prevent sunburn and peeling, which affects evenness and longevity.
- Pool, sea & jacuzzi: Salt and chemicals in the water can cause your tan to fade faster. With modest swimming, your tan will typically last 4–6 days.
- After leaving the salon: Drive home with skirt or dress between legs to prevent skin-on-skin contact and sweating.
- Avoid Dove body wash and heavily moisturizing soaps for the duration of your tan, as they may cause your tan to fade more quickly.
Pro Tip:
For the best results, if possible, plan to head home and relax after your appointment. Loose clothing, no bra, no tight shoes, and minimal activity will help your tan develop evenly.
Try to avoid errands, shopping trips, packing, heavy lifting, or anything that causes excessive friction, sweating, or pressure on the skin during the first 12 hours.
